What is the Cosmetology Program?
The cosmetology program is designed for those who want to become cosmetologists. The program has been approved by the State Board of Education and the Mississippi Board of Cosmetology. It has the approval and support of beauty salon owners and operators throughout this area and the state. A student enrolling must be at least 17 years of age and must have completed high school, or obtained the GED.
During the training period, students must maintain an average grade of 85 in theory and skill to be eligible for State Board Examination in order to attain a license. Fifteen hundred clock hours of training are required to complete the course. These 1500 hours are completed in the 12-month course.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS/APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process for the Cosmetology Program at East Central Community College begins in August 1st of each year and ends June 30th. Interviews for admission into the Cosmetology Program will be conducted during the month of July. Application packets and additional information may be obtained from Mrs. Christi Gregory, Career-Technical Counselor or from Mrs. Linda McKee in the Career-Technical Office located in the Bradford J. Tucker Applied Technology Center. Applications for the cosmetology program can not be submitted on-line, the application must be obtained from the Career-Technical Office.
Application and transcript information for the Cosmetology Program MUST be submitted to the Office of Career-Technical Education before the deadline date in June of each year.
Requirements:
Be a high school graduate or the equivalent;
Score 8th grade equivalent or above as measured by the TABE standardized test administered by East Central Community College personnel or an ACT score of 14 or above;
An original GED transcript or a copy of your high school transcript;
Upon notification of the above requirements being met, the applicant will have a personal interview by the Cosmetology Admissions Committee;
The applicant must be recommended for admission by the Cosmetology Admissions Committee.
Applicants shall be selected for an interview by the Cosmetology Admission Committee based upon the applicants scores on the standardized tests listed above and be recommended for admission by the Cosmetology Admissions Committee.
Admission priority will be given to: a) district applicants; b) out-of-district applicants; c) out-of-state applicant
