Dr. Marvin Wilson, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Mississippi Pharmacy School will speak to interested students and advisors at 10:45 on Tuesday, December 1st in Rives Educational Building Room 17. ATTENTION WALL O’ SOUND BAND: Practice RESUMES Monday November 30, 3:30 (the Monday we get back from Thanksgiving). Those not at rehearsal will be assumed dropped from Band with a grade of “F” and your fall scholarship will be removed.
HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS:
Nomination forms for the 2009-2010 East Central Community College Hall of Fame selection are now available for the administration, faculty, staff, and students. Nomination forms may be picked up in the Vice President for Student Services Office, the Communications’ Office, or accessed on the College's website -

Deadline for receipt of nominations is 12:00 noon on Friday, January 15, 2010, in the President’s office.
Only college sophomores eligible for graduation may be selected for this honor. Those selected shall be students who completed requirements for graduation at the end of the 2009-2010 fall semester or second semester sophomores who have completed at least forty-two hours of college work and will be eligible for graduation in May 2010. Academic, technical, and vocational students in two-year programs are eligible for selection.
The basis for selection is as follows: exemplary character, superior scholarship, worthy leadership, and contribution to the betterment of East Central Community College.
To be named to the Hall of Fame is the highest honor a student can receive at East Central.

STUDENTS WITH ACCOUNT BALANCES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE FINAL EXAMS, GRADUATE OR ADVANCE REGISTER FOR THE SPRING 2010 SEMESTER. PLEASE MAKE PAYMENT TO CLEAR YOUR ACCOUNT AND CHECK IT OFTEN FOR ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES THAT MAY OCCUR SUCH AS ADD/DROP FEES, OFFENSES, PARKING TICKETS, ETC.

PBL State Conference will be in Tupelo, February 24-26, 2009. The total registration fee is $45. You MUST pay $25 of the registration fee by December 1, 2009. If you have any questions about the state conference please contact Mrs. Ferguson.

Students must remain actively enrolled through 10/25/09 in order to receive full credit for federal (Title IV) financial aid.
-
As required by federal regulations, adjustments to a student’s financial aid will be required if the student withdraws from school or drops out (cuts out) of all classes before completing 60% of the semester because of required refund calculations. A student who does not complete 60% of the semester will be required to return any funds for which the student is not eligible to receive based on the calculation.

In addition, students who are receiving the following types of aid have additional requirements.
-
1. Loans -- A student must maintain enrollment in at least 6 hours per semester in order to be eligible for the loan.
-
2. MTAG, MESG, and other state programs – A student must maintain enrollment in at least 12 hours per semester.
-
3. Scholarships – Some scholarships must be adjusted if the student withdraws during a semester.
-

Students withdrawing during a semester who have received financial assistance will be required to abide by the refund policy governing the programs. It is advised that the student contact the Financial Aid Office before withdrawing or dropping out of school.

This is a reminder to all student loan applicants. In order for the College to receive loans funds that you may have applied for, three things have to be completed.
-

- Signing and returning to the Office of Financial Aid, the award letter.
-
- Completing the Loan Entrance Counseling. This process must be completed each academic year.
-
- Completing the Master Promissory Note. If this is your first loan with the lender you chose on your award letter, you must complete the MPN. If you are a repeat borrower using the same lender, you do NOT need to complete the MPN again.

COMPLETION OF THESE 3 STEPS IS A MUST. LOANS FUNDS CANNOT BE RECEIVED TO PAY YOUR ACCOUNT UNTIL ALL 3 HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.

H1N1 (Swine Flu) VIRUS FACTS

H1n1 is a viral infection that is being treated at present like the regular influenza. They are at present working on a vaccine. The Center for Disease Control reports it will not be available until around mid February.

Influenza viruses are thought to be spread mainly from person to person in respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes as they propel through the air into the nose and mouth.

Students, faculty, and staff MUST take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for staying home when ill and practicing HAND HYGINE and RESPIRATORY ETIQUETTE!!!!!

If you test POSITIVE for the flu you MUST stay off campus for at least 4 days and/or 24 hours after resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

SYMPTOMS

· Fever (some cases have no fever)

· Runny nose
-
· Lack of appetite
-
· Sore throat
-
· Dry Cough
-
· Fatigue

· Generalized aches and pains

· Vomiting

· diarrhea

Should you have any of these symptoms see the nurse in the Student Health Center located on the first floor in the Eddie M. Smith Building. CDC recommends you be fever free for at least 24 hours before returning to work or school. Although some are being diagnosed with Type A and B influenza with no increased temperature, therefore you should stay off campus for at least 4 days to allow the Tamiflu to be effective.

SURVIVAL GUIDE

- Hand washing is the #1 preventive. Wash for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
- Cover you mouth when you sneeze or cough. CDC recommends you use your arm or sleeve if a tissue is not available Do not use your hands. Immediately wash your hands after you sneeze or cough.
- Keep you hands away from your face (virus is transmitted through nose and mouth)
- Use alcohol-based sanitizing gel between hand washings
- Do not use others phones
- Periodically use a disinfectant spray on furniture, doorknobs, handrails, counters, and surfaces in cafeterias, meeting rooms, offices, etc.
- Do not drink after each other
- Do nut drink out of public fountains
- Use common sense regarding hygiene
