East Central Community College’s tennis teams fell to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in matches played Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Biloxi.
The women were clipped 7-2 and the Warriors dropped a 3-6 decision.
Sami Elkins of Forest and Hannah Peoples of Newton County Academy led EC in women’s singles by defeating Brittany Freeman (6-4, 6-3) and Katherine Blair, 6-4,4-6,1-0 (10-8), respectively.
In other results, Elise Gibbs of Newton County fell to Ruda Grinvalde (6-0, 6-3); Abby McMillan of Newton County Academy lost to Victoria Hagel (6-3, 6-2), Rachael Ramirez of Forest was edged by Megan Terrel (6-3, 6-2) and Ashley Walker of Union was clipped by Katie King (6-0, 6-3).
In women’s doubles, Gibbs and McMillan fell to Grindale and Terrel (8-2), Ramirez and Peoples lost to Hagel and Freeman (8-3) and Elkins and Walker were defeated by King and Blair (8-2).
The Lady Warriors are now 2-2 on the young season.
In men’s singles, Jason Hancock of Newton County was the lone Warrior winner in singles, as he beat Lyn Jacobson (6-2, 6-2). In other results, Colton Amis of Newton County fell to Kriss Baglais (6-2, 6-3), Will Marston of Union was defeated by Alex Drake (6-1,6-2), Zac White of Union was edged by LeBlanc (7-5, 7-5), Garret Moore of Union fell to Taylor Thrash (6-2, 6-4) and Matt Griffin of Union lost to Tyler Eggers (6-3, 6-2).
EC took two of three matches in men’s doubles, as Marston and Hancock beat Leblanc and Travis Ladner (8-3) and Griffin and White edged Thrash and Eggers (8-6). Amis and Smith fell in their match with Baglais and Drake (8-1).
East Central netters travel to Jones County Junior College Tuesday, March 2 and will be guests of Holmes Community College Thursday, March 4.
