ECCC Mourns Sophomore Whitley Fisher

Whitley Fisher

The East Central Community College campus is in mourning today following the tragic death of sophomore Whitley Fisher of Lake.

Fisher was killed in a one-car accident Thursday afternoon on the Decatur-Conehatta road.

Classmates and other friends assembled in the Vickers Fine Arts Center auditorium Friday morning to remember the popular student and concert choir member. She was a graduate of Newton County High School.

College President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin, Scott Vaughn, Baptist Student Union director, and Revs. Mark Vincent of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church and Bruce Taylor of Decatur United Methodist Church, offered words of comfort and support to the grieving students.

Vicki Blaylock, concert choir director, also spoke words of encouragement and performed a song of inspiration.

She also announced the concert choir will perform at Fisher’s funeral, scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Baptist Church. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Wolf Funeral Home in Morton.

Counselors from Weems Community Mental Health Center were also available to meet with students coping with Fisher’s sudden death.
