Numerous area high school basketball teams are set to compete in the annual East Central Classic, which gets under way Monday, Nov. 30 on the Decatur campus.
Participating in the double-elimination event are girls’ and boys’ teams from Neshoba Central, Newton County, Forest, West Lauderdale, Lake, Southeast Lauderdale, Thomastown, Philadelphia, Scott Central, Newton, Choctaw Central and Northeast Lauderdale.
Competition will be held in the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building and the South Campus gym.
First-round girls’ action on Monday, Nov. 30 includes match-ups at 4 p.m. between Philadelphia and Thomastown (Brackeen-Wood) and Lake and Southeast Lauderdale (South Campus), followed by 7 p.m. contests featuring Forest and West Lauderdale (Brackeen-Wood) and Neshoba Central and Newton County (South Campus).
Northeast Lauderdale will take on the Thomastown/Philadelphia winner at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 in Brackeen-Wood and Newton battles the Forest/West Lauderdale winner at the same time in the South Campus gym.
Also scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 1, is a 7 p. m. matchup between Choctaw Central and the Lake/Southeast Lauderdale victor in Brackeen-Wood.
Top-seeded Scott Central begins competition against the Neshoba Central/Newton County winner at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 in Brackeen-Wood.
Semi-finals are scheduled at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in Brackeen-Wood. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, also in Brackeen-Wood.
Finals in the Consolation bracket will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 in Brackeen-Wood.
Competition in the boys’ bracket begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, with Thomastown taking on Lake in Brackeen-Wood and Newton County battling Southeast Lauderdale in the South Campus gym. Games set for 8:30 p.m. Monday include Scott Central vs. Neshoba Central in Brackeen-Wood and Philadelphia battling West Lauderdale in the South Campus gym.
Second-round action has Forest meeting the Thomastown/Lake winner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, in Brackeen-Wood and Northeast Lauderdale taking on the Scott Central/Neshoba Central victor the same time in the South Campus gym. Newton will take on the Newton County/Southeast Lauderdale winner at 8:30 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood.
